A Furry Dictionary

• Anthro: Short for Anthropomorphic.
• AnthroCon: One of the largest furry conventions.
• Anthropomorphic: An animal with human characteristics.
• Bioengineering: Using science to create new, "better" animals.
• ConFurence: The world's first furry convention.  It ran for 14 years before shutting down.
• Digitigrade: Walking on one's toes. See also Plantigrade.
• Familiar: Similar to a totem.  A spirit, usually in the form of an animal, that is summoned to serve, protect, or guide.
• Fetish: A small statue or carving of an animal, used as a good luck charm, an aid to meditation, or as a symbol of one's totem or familiar.
• Funny Animal: A very debatable term. Usually refers to more cartoon-ish animals in humorous situations, such as Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck, although it is sometimes used to refer to any furry, funny or not.
• Furcon:  1.  Any furry convention.  2.  Further Confusion.
• Furfen: Furry fans.
• Furrottica: Furry erotica.
• Furry: 1. An anthropomorphic animal. 2. A furry fan.

• Furryphile: Someone who likes furries.
• Fursuit:  A costume depicting a furry.
• Further Confusion:  One of the largest furry conventions.
• Furvert: Usually someone who likes furrottica, although sometimes it refers to any furry fan.
• Latent Furry:  Someone who is interested in anthropomorphics, but doesn't yet know that the furry fandom exists.
• Lycanthropy: The ability to change form from a human into a wolf (as in a werewolf). A specific form of zoanthropy (q.v.)
• Lynxism: A method of typing that ys considered Ky00te.  Fyrst started by Lynx of FurryMUCK.  Usually ynvolves replacyng the letter "i" wyth the letter "y", among other thyngs.  Can be amewsyng at tymes.
• Macrofurry: A much larger than normal furry.  A giant furry. (i.e., King Kong, Godzilla, etc.)
• Medicine Cards: A deck of cards, with Native American symbols and images of various animals, printed by  Bear & Co.  The deck is akin to a tarot deck, but is designed more for self-exploration than for divination.  It can be used as an aid to meditation, to help contact one's totems or familiars, or to assist in examining one's motivations, feelings, or desires, and the animal spirits that are affecting them.
• Microfurry: A much smaller than normal furry.
• Moreau: A bioengineered animal. (named after Dr. Moreau).
• Morph: Short for Anthropomorphic or Zoomorphic.
• Morphic: Short for Anthropomorphic or Zoomorphic.
• Mundane: A term used by furry fans referring to someone who is not a furry fan.
• Murine: Having the characteristics of a mouse or rat.
• Personal Furry: 1. One's character on FurryMUCK or another MUD/MUCK. 2. An animal who best fits one's personality. 3. One's favorite animal. 4 A personal totem.
• Plantigrade: Walking on one's heel and toes (like humans). See also Digitigrade.
• Plish:  Sometimes used as the plural of "plush"
• Plushie: A stuffed toy (i.e., a teddy bear) Variant spellings include "plushi", and "plushy")
• Plushophile: Someone who loves plushies.
• Scritch:  To scratch someone gently, often as a friendly gesture of greeting.
• Sketchbook: A notebook containing drawings, especially a book one uses to collect drawings done by other artists. Please read the Sketchbook Etiquette file
• Smoothie: A human (from their lack of fur)
• Spooge: 1. Semen.  2.  Any body fluids.  3. Explicit pornographic art, though sometimes wrongly applied to non-explicit, erotic art in general.  4. Extremely violent art, especially if it contains lots of blood or gore.   Usually referred to as "gun spooge".
• Squick: To embarrass and/or offend, especially by acting in an outrageous or offensive manner, or by displaying offensive material.
• Stuffie: A stuffed toy (i.e., a teddy bear)  Variant spellings include "stuffy" and "stuffi"
• Therianthropic:  A mythological creature that is part animal and part human.
• Totem: An animal that acts as a spirit guide or guardian.
• Yiff: 1. The sound made by a fox. 2. To have sex with.
• Yiffy: 1. Erotic or sexy.  2. Sexually aroused.
• Zoanthropy: The ability to change into an animal. (See also lycanthropy)
• Zoomorphic: A human with animal characteristics.
